What God Taught Me in Week One

Well, I made it through Week One of my walking journey with God.  Since I logged 38,971 steps, I have 461,029 to go...woo-hoo!  Here's a list of things I learned from God this week:

1) "Next time you walk in My forest after five days of rain, make sure you wear bug spray!"  (That God; he has such a sense of humor!)

2) I learned God teaches me best to appreciate His handiwork in the quiet...no music, no cars, no people...

3) I was reminded that his simplest designs are the most profound...the deafening roar of the water's tide, the softness of the sand under my bare feet, the jagged rocks that inspire both fear and security, the vast life the woods perpetuate...

4) I learned that even with all this walking a person can still be constipated...what a bummer!!!

5) I was reminded how futile life can be at times.  How often we chase things like career and status, when the things that really matter we leave for later.

We have this one life.  This one life to hold our family close.  This one life to use our talents for Him, to make a difference for Him.  This one life to influence others to want to know more about Him.  We have this one life to really connect with others, to be real with them, to cry and laugh with them.  But we hide behind busyness and Facebook, behind the work grind and new clothes.  We worry about the stupidest things in the big scheme of things.

James 4:14 in the NIV reads, "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes."

Do you really think it will matter to you, to anyone, when you reach the end of your life whether or not you carried a designer bag?  Or what kind of car you drove?  Or how much money you made?

In the end, James Dobson says it will all be about who you loved, who loved you, and what you did for the Lord.  I believe it.  I want to live every day demonstrating that belief to others.

Enjoy your day.  Enjoy this blog.
