Woo-hoo! I am at the end of Day Two of my cleanse.
When I went to my medical appointment on Monday, January 23, I thought about asking the doc what he thought about my waiting until Friday to start this thing. After all, I would begin three days of travel for work upon leaving his office, and wouldn't it be a pain starting something like this that way? I thought I might set myself up for failure, being away from home and all. As it is, I believe I did the right thing in starting the cleanse the very next day. Yes, it meant I had to find a grocery store in an unfamiliar town to buy my veggies and fruit and a paring knife. After I got back to the hotel I thought, "What am I going to put my cut-up veggies in? And how am I going to shake up my whey-protein mix with water?" I found a K-Mart that had what I needed, and I was on my way.
The really great thing about starting this away from home is that I have had no ice cream in my freezer or leftover lasagna in the fridge to tempt me. All I have is the cut-up veggies, the protein powder, and the fruit in my hotel room. The other nice thing about this is, I am exhausted from all this cleansing! Since I'm by myself, I can sleep as much as I need to on my off time. I battle the brain-fog, the slight headache, and the nausea by myself, and my family should be thanking me for that!
The one bummer about doing this on the road is that there's really no way for me to cook. Though it's probably good for my cleanse, all I can eat is raw foods on the road. I'm hoping it will feel like a treat to make veggie soup with chicken stock on Friday so that the last four days of the cleanse will fly by.
Are you interested in knowing what exactly is involved in the cleanse? Before I go through the daily stuff, let me tell you what happened at the appointment:
Along with recording my weight and measurements, the nurse put four electrodes on me so that she could record my ratio of fat to muscle, how much water I had in my system...I don't remember what else; there were about seven things that the electrodes recorded. The doctor came in and reviewed everything with me and presented the plan for the next seven days. Last, the nurse gave me my MIC lipolytic nutrient injection (methylated B-12/B-6/methionine/inositol/choline). This is supposed to stimulate fat mobilization while increasing energy.
Here's the daily stuff:
1) I start the day with the juice from half a lemon along with a cup of hot water. I drink this as I apply my make-up.
2) Most of my breakfast is, quite frankly, vitamins and supplements; I take them with my protein shake. By the time I get my multi-vitamin, calcium + D, Lycene, and Vessel Care down along with my three fish oil caplets, my Pure Cleanse I and II, and my 5000 mg. of D3, I have maybe a swallow or two left. Next I indulge in four strawberries, which is about a half-cup.
3) Before I leave for the day, I read the Bible for about 15 minutes while I breathe deeply. I need the Lord's help to go through this, and the reading of His Word gives me the strength I need to take the next step.
4) The doctor doesn't want me to go more than three hours between eating. Mid-morning, I have a tomato and an few celery sticks.
5) For lunch, I'm back to the protein shake (accompanied with another three fish oil caplets and my Pure Cleanse I and II). My fruit for lunch is an apple.
6) My afternoon snack is more celery. (No, I don't really like celery, but it's a good grazer-type food and is easy to carry.)
7) For dinner, I do a big salad with spinach, julianne-cut carrots, olives, tomatoes and cucumbers, topping it with a 1:1 ratio of rice wine vinegar and extra-virgin olive oil. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without another three fish oil caplets, Pure Cleanse I and II, a calcium + D, and one more 5000 mg. of D3.
8) I'm also supposed to breathe deeply at night, but so far I've been too tuckered!
The doctor said to look for a protein powder that is micro-filtered for easier digestion. The clinic sells a type called Unipro's Perfect Protein. Each chocolate scoop contains 16 grams of protein, 1 gram of fiber, and no sugar...so win-win-win.
Today, I felt strong enough to walk a couple of miles on the treadmill, too! Only moderate exercise during this week; no weights.
I've blabbered on enough for today. Thanks for listening! Enjoy your day. Enjoy this blog.
