A Few of My Faves

I promise to get into some of the recipes I've found tomorrow, but I realize there's a lot more ground information I need to cover before I get into all that.  Here are a few of the more common essential oils as well as their uses:

Bergamot:  Helps with stomach problems, urinary tract infections, stress and skin problems. This is one of my absolute favorites!  It has a citrus smell and, like the peppermint oil you'll read about below, I use this along with my Sweet Almond Oil if I shower at night.

Clary Sage:  A natural pain killer, helpful in treating muscular aches and pains. Very relaxing, and can help with insomnia. Also very helpful in balancing hormones.

Eucalyptus: Helpful in treating respiratory problems, such as coughs, colds, and asthma. It also helps to boost the immune system, and relieve muscle tension.  It's great to use in linen sprays for when you go night-night, too.

Geranium:  Helps to balance hormones in women and good for balancing the skin. It can be both relaxing and uplifting, and can help alleviate depression.

Lavender:  Relaxing. Useful in treating wounds and burns.

Lemon:  Very uplifting, yet relaxing. Helpful in treating wounds and infections. Useful in house cleaning and deodorizing.

Peppermint: Useful in treating headaches, muscle aches, digestive disorders such as slow digestion, indigestion, and flatulence (yikes!). Peppermint is my oil of choice when I shower in the morning. I put about a quarter-size amount of Sweet Almond Oil in the palm of my hand and two or three drops of Peppermint oil.  I rub my hands together and cover my legs in it.  It invigorates my senses and clears my head.  The scent lingers in the bathroom and wafts into the bedroom...a crisp, clean way to start the day.

Roman Chamomile:  Very relaxing, and can help with sleeplessness and anxiety. Also good for muscle aches and tension. Useful in treating wounds and infection.

Rosemary:  Very stimulating and uplifting, good to help mental stimulation as well as to stimulate the immune system. Very good for muscle aches and tension. Stimulates the digestive system.

Tea Tree:  A natural anti fungal oil, good for treating all sorts of fungal infections including vaginal yeast infections, jock itch, athletes foot, and ringworm. Also helps to boost the immune system.  I hate, hate, hate the smell, and this keeps my from using this oil much.

Ylang Ylang: Helps one to relax, and can reduce muscle tension. Good antidepressant.  (One thing I didn't uncover online, though I know it's true:  It's also a strong aphrodesiac.  Shh...our secret.)
